Your First Visit
we believe that your journey to a healthier, more beautiful smile begins with a welcoming and informative first visit. Dr. Bita and her friendly team are dedicated to making this initial appointment as comfortable and comprehensive as possible. Here’s what you can expect during your first visit with us.
As soon as you walk through our doors, you’ll be greeted by our warm and friendly staff. If you haven’t already completed your patient forms online, you’ll be asked to fill them out upon arrival. These forms help us gather essential information about your medical history, dental health, and orthodontic concerns.
Once you are checked in, we’ll head to the examination room where our team will conduct a thorough evaluation of your oral health. This includes:
- Review of Dental History — We will review your dental and medical history to understand any previous treatments or conditions that may affect your orthodontic care.
- Oral Exam — A detailed examination of your teeth, gums, and jaw to identify any existing issues and assess your overall oral health.
- Digital Imaging — We may take digital X-rays and photographs to get a comprehensive view of your teeth and jaw structure. This helps in creating an accurate diagnosis and personalized orthodontic treatment plan.
After the examination, Dr. Bita will discuss her findings with you and explain any orthodontic issues that need to be addressed. She will then outline a customized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals. This plan will include:
- Treatment Options — An overview of the recommended treatment options, such as Invisalign, traditional braces, or other orthodontic appliances.
- Expected Duration — An estimate of the treatment duration based on the complexity of your case.
- Cost and Financing — A detailed breakdown of the treatment costs and available financing options to help you manage your investment in your smile.
Your first visit is the perfect time to ask any questions you may have about your treatment options, the process, or what to expect. Dr. Bita and her team are here to provide clear and comprehensive answers, ensuring you feel confident and informed about your orthodontic journey.

Caring For Your Smile
Our commitment to you and your family is creating beautiful smiles for a lifetime, but caring for your teeth is the first and most important step in achieving that goal!
Proper oral hygiene practices are crucial to attaining the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted and deserve. This includes brushing and flossing at least twice a day but regular checkups with your family dentist are also very important while in orthodontic treatment. Your family dentist will determine the intervals between cleaning appointments while you are in treatment.
The orthodontic diet
Once treatment begins, we will explain the complete instructions and provide a comprehensive list of foods to avoid. The basic rule of thumb is to stay away from anything hard, sticky, chewy or crunchy. These foods include but are not limited to: ice, hard candy, raw vegetables, caramel, taffy, hard chips (tortillas/Doritos), nuts, and pizza crust. You can avoid most emergency appointments to repair broken or damaged braces by carefully following our instructions.
Emergency Care
You should always feel free to contact us with any issues, but please be assured there are very few true orthodontic emergencies. Most problems can be remedied at home and do not need immediate attention in the office. Our first concern is the comfort of the patient and this section will walk you through some basic steps to help make the patient more comfortable at home.
- During Office Hours — If you have a loose or broken appliance, please do contact us promptly, but call first rather than come into the office. That way, our trained team will make sure to create sufficient time to address your repair or issue.
- After Hours — If it’s not urgent, you are welcome to leave a message that our team will return first thing in the morning. If you need to speak with someone immediately, our message will give you our after hours service number and a member or our team will be contacted for you. If it is a life threatening emergency, please call 9-1-1.
Common Emergencies
- Sore Teeth — If there are no know allergies, you may take acetaminophen or other non-aspirin pain relievers while you adjust to your new braces. A warm wash cloth, heating pad or warm salt water rinses may reduce the soreness in your jaws.
- Wire Irritation — Try moving the wire away from the irritated area with a cotton swab or eraser. If the wire will not move, try covering the end of it with a small piece of cotton or a small amount of wax. If the wire is painful, you can cut it with nail clippers or scissors that have been washed and sterilized in alcohol.
- Loose Bracket — First, call our office to see if the bracket needs to be re-fitted. If you have a situation where you must cut the wire or slide a bracket off the wire, you may use nail clippers or scissors that have been washed and sterilized in alcohol. Please call our office on the next business day to schedule a repair appointment.
- Lost Separator — Call our office to see if it needs to be replaced. Some patients may lose a separator during treatment, which is common.

Retainer Assurance Program
Congratulations! You have completed your orthodontic treatment and now it’s time to switch over to wearing retainers. Retainers are an essential part of your orthodontic treatment because they help ensure that your teeth don’t shift once your braces are off. Your first set of retainers are included with treatment and your treatment fee. If you lose or break your initial retainer, we understand that accidents can happen (you can step on them, forget them on vacation, and dogs love to chew on them). Remaking retainers can be expensive, which is why we have launched our Retainer Assurance Program to ensure that your smile remains ‘Bitaful’!
Think of it as insurance for your retainer. Our Retainer Assurance Program allows you to have a removable retainer replaced as needed. For more information about the program, contact our team or ask us about how to get started at your next appointment!
